Things to Do

The Oar

221 Jobs Hill Road, New Shoreham, R.I. 02807

A Block Island staple and where we shared one of our first dates. The Oar is located in New Harbor, so is a bike or taxi ride from main downtown. This is a bar/restaurant that is a great spot for lunch, dinner or evening drinks. There is indoor seating as well as outdoor picnic tables and chairs overlooking new harbor and the boats coming in and out. It is a great place to sit outside, have some sushi, mahi tacos (our favorite), and play some cornhole.

Mohegan Bluffs

New Shoreham, R.I. 02807

Located on the southern side of the island - about a mile from the reception venue, some people say the beach at the base of the 200-foot tall Mohegan Bluffs is the most beautiful on the island. The best way to get there is taxi or riding a bike. It’s a bit of a climb, with a set of 141 steps leading down to the sand, however, make the effort and the payoff is spectacular, with clay cliffs that offer one of the most dramatic views of the Atlantic. The swimming at this beach isn't as great due to rocks; however, the scenery is beautiful!

Island Moped and Bike

Water Street, New Shoreham, R.I. 02807

At 7 miles by 3 miles, Block Island can be big to explore on foot alone - but it’s perfect for bikes and mopeds. Located right downtown and only a 3 minute walk from the ferry, this is a great place for moped or bicycle rentals. Rentals are available for a few hours or days. For all information, including available discounts you may call (401) 466-2700 or visit their website linked here.

EAT!

Mudslides: Block Island is known for its' mudslides. The best on the island depends on who you ask. Our favorite is from Champlin's (pictured above). How we order: "top shelf". The best man orders his with banana.

Breakfast: Ernie's, Aldo's Bakery, The Cracked Mug, Payne's Killer Donuts

Lunch: Ballards, Poor People's Pub, Block Island Beach House, The National (our favorite drink: The Goombay Smash)

Dinner: The Spring House (our venue), Dead Eye Dicks, Eli's, Winfield's

Glass Orb Hunting

Each year, 550 Glass Floats (glass orbs about the size of an orange) are hidden on Block Island beaches and greenway trails. It is basically a giant scavenger hunt. Floats will be dated, numbered and stamped with the shape of Block Island. All floats are clear glass except for 24 (for 2024), which are special colored orbs.
